Abstract
Recent results supporting the advantages of preserving residual acoustic hearing in cochlear implantation are reviewed. In addition to improving speech recognition ability beyond what a patient can obtain from amplification, the Acoustic+Electric approach offers advantages over traditional cochlear implants in terms of speech recognition in background noises as well as improved sound quality.
