Abstract

The development of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells is largely tracked by the history of the membranes. Because fuel cells of various types were known prior to PEM technologies, the catalysts, fuels, and oxidants used in PEM fuel cells were reasonably well-established materials.
