Abstract

Clinical trials are currently underway to determine whether use of new drugs and monitors may permit patients to go directly from the operating room to a phase II postanesthesia care unit. If such a practice pattern were implemented, would phase II postanesthesia care nurses have the ongoing clinical experience to recognize and treat acute cardiopulmonary disease, should a patient in the phase II unit need such care?
