Abstract
Many factors must be considered in designing a serials retrospective conversion project. Based on their experience with a project deriving records from RLIN and entering records directly into a local NOTIS system, the authors discuss the project design considerations, authority control, recataloging issues, and clean-up problems and solutions. They compare the merits of methods employed in different phases of the project as well as on-going conversion. In converting all currently received serials not cataloged on RLIN, nearly 11,000 fully cataloged and 7,000 uncataloged titles were added to the University of Iowa database.
