Abstract

REPORT OF A CASE A 36-year-old man presented to the Houston Veterans Administration Hospital complaining of an asymptomatic eruption on his cheeks, his forehead, and the backs of his hands, which had begun in 1981. He was otherwise completely healthy. He had worked as a surveyor for 14 years and had no history of oil field work. His family history was negative for similar skin problems.Physical examination revealed tiny, amber, translucent papules on the backs of the patient's hands (Fig 1) and larger papules coalescing into plaques over his cheeks and the lateral aspect of his forehead (Fig 2). The remaining results of his physical examination were normal.A 3-mm punch biopsy specimen was taken from his cheek; a low-power micrograph is shown in Fig 3.What is your diagnosis? DIAGNOSIS: Colloid milium.
