Abstract
In this report a new device is described that can be used to introduce a soft, flexible catheter through dense or tough superficial layers and into a delicate lumen or cavity using a single hand. We have demonstrated its use in nine patients by introducing a ventricular catheter through brain parenchyma and into the ventricular system to relieve hydrocephalus. The device is easy to use and there have been no complications.
