Abstract

Spontaneous fetal bladder activity was examined in fetal sheep (116 to 120 days’ gestation) by injection of radioactive substances directly into the bladder or intravenously. In all fetuses, spontaneous micturition could be demonstrated, contrary to a recent study with fetal dogs. The present work suggests the fetal bladder has an active role in the contribution of fetal urine to amniotic fluid formation.
