Abstract
We present two cases of successful staged placement of standard growing-rod instrumentation for early-onset scoliosis in children with metabolic bone disease and poor bone quality.
Because use of growing-rod surgery is increasing throughout the world, we propose that a staged approach to placement of growing rods is a practical and safe option for surgeons who encounter patients with early-onset scoliosis and concomitant poor bone quality.
