Abstract
Recurrent acute otitis media is a serious problem for many children and may have long-term effects in some. Prophylaxis with antibiotics can reduce the number of episodes in children who are prone to otitis media. Dr Bergus discusses who should receive prophylaxis and reviews the merits and side effects of several antibiotics used for this purpose.
