Abstract
Results of a stress corrosion study of Fe
40Ni
38Mo
4B
19 metallic glass in H
2SO
4 solutions are reported. The material was tested in the as-received condition in 0, 25, 50, 75, and 100% H
2SO
4. The fractographs of the as-received samples in 100% H
2SO
4 showed that the metal suffered brittle failure during a 10-day test. In addition, some corrosion products were observed on the fracture surface, indicating that a combined action of stress and corrosion was the cause of the failure.
