Abstract
The trafficking of nutrient transporters is highly regulated and controlled by a variety of signal transduction pathways. A recent study by
Gao and Kaiser (2006) in
Nature Cell Biology demonstrates a role for a novel GTPase-containing complex that allows the amino acid permease Gap1 to recycle out of late endosomal compartments. This complex is likely to play critical roles in allowing animal cells to mobilize their nutrient transporters in response to metabolic demands.
