Abstract
Steffes et al determine the long-term effects of intensive vs. conventional treatment during the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial on kidney function during the Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications study. The persistent beneficial effects on albumin excretion and the reduced incidence of hypertension suggest that previous intensive treatment of diabetes with near-normal glycemia delay the progression of diabetes nephropathy.
