Abstract
A tandem target for simultaneous production of
11C and
15O is described. The front target utilizes recirculating
14N
2 target gas to cool the two target windows (vacuum to
11C and
11C to
15O). The rear target is a static
15O chamber. Havar foils (0.0025 cm) and aluminum target chambers are used. Target thickness, volume and pressure are optimized for maximum nuclide production (total activity and activity/volume) while minimizing beam scatter and target dead volume. Systems were designed to be used with a Scanditronix MC-17 or a similar positive ion cyclotron.
