Abstract
"At the beginning of his career, Wright observed similar amazing advances in technology and the shortening of work hours in the late 19th and early 20th centuries the eight-hour day and then the five-day workweek swept the industrial nations as a golden age of technology began. Just as we are fretting about the "end of work" and AI's taking away our jobs, Wright, along with many others of his day, was concerned that "The Machine" was doing more and more of our work, taking the creativity and control away (deskilling), and leaving only the boring remnants for most people."
