The Case of the Missing or Depressed Fundamental: Belting and Trumpeting
Journal of singing, Vol.73(1), pp.53-54

Abstract
In voice belting and calling, the fundamental is not eliminated, but suppressed relative to the second harmonic, which is nearly tuned to the first resonance (formant). The timbre of belt is related to the timbre of a trumpet due to the lack of energy in the fundamental frequency. Pitch perception is not only related to the fundamental frequency, but the entire spectrum of frequencies. Thus, the strong second harmonic influences pitch perception in addition to timbre.
