Abstract

[...]because the associations between symptoms and sensitizations are highly dependent on the age of the child, as well as the method used for testing for allergic sensitization, atopy in children is unlikely to represent a true endotype. In the absence of appropriate behavioral treatment, cough can continue for months or years. Because no pharmacologic treatment is effective for this disorder, it is important for clinicians to recognize this functional cough with no organic basis and treat it behaviorally.
