Abstract
The Inventory to Diagnose Depression (IDD) is a 22-item self-report scale designed to diagnose major depressive disorder (MDD) according to
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(
DSM-III;
American Psychiatric Association, 1980
) criteria. Three hundred ninety-eight relatives of psychiatric patients and normal controls completed the IDD and were interviewed with the Diagnostic Interview Scale (DIS). The point prevalence of MDD was nearly identical according to the IDD (3.0%) and the DIS (2.8%). Moreover, we found good concordance between the two methods of diagnosing MDD.
