The Larynx and the Ear--How Well Do They Match?
Journal of singing, Vol.57(5), pp.41-43

Abstract
Examines the mechanoacoustic transduction involved in voice transmission in an effort to illustrate how well the larynx (the major sound-producing organ in the body) and the ear (the major sound-receiving organ in the body) are matched. Concludes that the regions of operation of the voice and the ear are poorly matched at low frequencies, perhaps explaining why there is a tendancy in vocal music to boost low frequencies with amplification systems. Includes graphs, illustrations, and references.
