Abstract
A p-version penalty finite element method is used to solve the model problem − Δu = f in Ω , u = g on εΩ . Error estimates are derived in H 1 -norm. The p-version penalty method with extrapolation yields an approximate solution which converges at the optimal rate. Numerical results show the effectiveness of the p-version penalty method with extrapolation.
