Abstract
The Problem: Nursing home residents are consumers of services and their experiences and satisfaction is important to sustain positive outcomes and institutional reputation. The Resolution: We examined the influences upon the likelihood that a resident would recommend a facility to others through categorization of residents based upon the satisfaction domains for which they were highly satisfied. Tips for Success: Length of stay was important, and for both long- and short-stay residents, nursing care was influential. If nursing care was viewed as less than “very good,” the ability of a facility to achieve a resident recommendation dropped significantly. However, providers may achieve high satisfaction for residents who are not pleased with nursing care by examining domains that influenced satisfaction when nursing care was not positively assessed.
