Abstract

The unfavourable association of diabetes mellitus and acute myocardial infarction has long been known, but in a Groote Schuur Hospital series (1972 - 1974) of 89 diabetics in a total series of 882 patients, there was an especially unfavourable prognosis for obese female diabetics, with a hospital mortality rate of 43%.
