Theoretical uncertainties in the QCD predictions for transverse-momentum distributions in [pi][sup [minus]]-nucleon production of lepton pairs

Abstract
We examine the full next-to-leading order QCD predictions for the transverse momentum distribution of dilepton pairs produced in pion-nucleon collisions. We compare our numerical results, as functions of the unphysical renormalization and factorization scales, with NA10 data from [pi][sup [minus]]-tungsten collisions. We find that for some choices of unphysical scales, the inclusion of intrinsic transverse momentum smearing is enough to give qualitative agreement with the data, but does not agree with the data in detail.
