Abstract
The skill of counseling for lifestyle change includes educating the client in addition to counseling using theories and strategies that inform us of the direction our interactions with clients might take. Maintaining new healthful eating patterns might focus on a variety of theories and strategiesbehavioral, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other strategies to deal with emotional eating habits. The behavioral change strategy of modeling along with providing information on nutrient content and history of the origins of a food can interject the fun and excitement needed to help in initiating new healthful eating behaviors. The purpose of this article is to focus on the need to go beyond simply providing information. The emphasis should be on using theory-based behavior change skills to modify eating habits and maintain healthy lifestyle change
