Abstract

Configurations of intrapulpal unmyelinated axons and their Schwann cells in human primary canine roots were analyzed in three dimensions using electron microscopy and serial sectioning. Altered axons formed less elaborate networks of fiber arrangements and exhibited a loss of Schwann cell coverings. Altered axons were segregated from networks containing unaltered axons and were presumed to be degenerating.
