Abstract
Increasingly, marriages in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints transition from a same-faith to “mixed-faith” status as one spouse religiously disaffiliates. Due to unique beliefs and expectations in sharing beliefs, increased risks of conflict and dissolution are identified. Theorizing the phenomenon through Family Systems Theory, this article assists providers in employing a systemic diagnosis to navigate conflicting triangulations between spouses, while assisting couples in choosing a relational trajectory, deconstructing prior patterns, and creating new patterns centered on shared values. Interventions will be illustrated with a case study; limitations and implications will be discussed.
