Abstract
To the Editor: The article by Weller in the December 1 issue notes that in the United States, varicella is a childhood disease in which 32 percent of cases occur between the ages of one and four years and 50 percent between five and nine years.1 During recent school physical examinations at our medical center, 32 of 107 military-dependent American adolescents had a negative history for varicella. Twenty-one were female and 11 were male, ranging in age between 12 and 19 years (mean, 15.9).
