Abstract
Quantitative cutaneous vibrotactile threshold measurement represents a useful technique for analyzing nervous system function in environmental and occupational neuroepidemiology. Widespread use of this approach is currently limited because of poor standardization methods and minimal demonstration of linkage between vibrotactile threshold and conventional measures of peripheral nerve function. The relevant literature is discussed and recent research is surveyed, leading to recommendations concerning choice and standardization of testing protocol and covariates.
