Abstract

Examines the "mystery" in vocal pedagogy as to why nasals such as m, n, and relatively closed vowels like u, U, and i are useful for warmup and "eliciting a lighter, yet more resonant vocal mechanism." Provides illustrations of physiological configurations for the vowel u and the nasal consonant m. Notes the controversy among singing teachers about using the falsetto register to train the high male voice.
