Voice Research and Technology: How Are Harmonics Produced at the Voice Source?

Abstract
The author offers information on the production of source harmonics. They are produced in two primary ways: the collision of the vocal folds, or the acoustic energy from the vocal tract being fed back to the glottis and altering the glottal flow. Both scenarios involve a distortion of an otherwise simpler glottal airflow that has only one harmonic, the fundamental. A series of glottal flow waveforms and corresponding harmonic spectra is presented.
