Abstract
Titze discusses the positive and negative effects of speech on the vocal folds. Since most human speech requires primarily low frequencies for clarity of articulation, the larynx is rarely exercised in the higher registers by non-singers. He discusses how vocalists may compensate for the imbalances of speech.
