Abstract
Prince Albert Pulp and Paper (PAPP), an operating unit of Weyerhaeuser Co., looked to its management accounting system to integrate the quality mission into employees' thinking and actions in a concrete and visible way. The result has been to develop a strategically driven performance management system focusing on continuous improvement - one that closely resembles the conceptualization of an integrated performance measurement system. Mutually supportive component parts is a key idea in management control system design. PAPP's performance measurement system provides feedback information to monitor the mill's success in the execution of strategies. However, an integrated performance measurement system has the potential to serve more than the traditional monitoring role - it can foster strategic learning which feeds into steps one and 3 of the strategic management cycle.
