Abstract

Walt Whitman gave poets the permission to discover their own land- and city-scapes, courage to chart the drifts, shoals and sea lanes of their psyches and ideas with which to interpret mysterious and bountiful worlds. The legacy that Whitman left his fellow poets is discussed.
