Abstract
Presents an explanation as to why humans have a vocal ligament or vocal cords. Discusses the physical and mechanical properties of vocal cords and compares them to instrument strings. Provides an equation for calculating the frequency of vibration of the ligament using stress on the ligament, density of the ligament, and its length as factors.
