Abstract

The crystal structure of the title compound confirms the cis assignment for (Z)-3-phenyl-2-(trifluoromethyl)prop-2-enoic acid, C10H7F3O2. The two molecules in the asymmetric unit form a hydrogen-bonded dimer but have different conformations. One molecule has the carbonyl O atom cis with respect to the trifluoromethyl group, while the other molecule has the hydroxyl O atom cis to the trifluoromethyl group.
