Letter
Chapman and colleagues report on the cost savings of a first case on-time start (FCOTS) initiative. The authors demonstrate the importance of “defining FCOTS and stakeholder education, assignment of discrete, standardized processes…known as swim lanes, and daily reporting,” showing an improvement in FCOTS from 76.1% to more than 85%. 1 We are concerned about the methodology for estimating the last case on-time end LCOTE and the cost savings attributed to the reduction in overtime.
