Abstract
It's no secret that if you sit with the executive team, you become instrumental in strategic decision making. But opinions differ on how to garner that respected seat. Kenneth Brown cites author Harold Stolovitch, industry expert Bob Mager, and various case examples from NYNEX, AT&T, and Oral B to defend his strategy: To add value, you need to bring a unique competency that other C-level executives may not have - an in-depth understanding of human learning and performance. While much has been made of the benefits of technology, Brown assets that technology is one tool that can achieve business objectives, but it shouldn't serve as the primary tool. Your focus should be on systematic training design and human performance improvement models. the critical thinking that underlies those frameworks is not out of fashion - and never will be - because it works. C-level executives already speak the language of business. the voice that is needed at the table is one that advocates human learning and performance. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
