The Iowa Health and Wellness Plan (IHAWP) is Iowa’s version of the Medicaid expansion and was enacted through bi-partisan legislation to provide comprehensive health care coverage to low income adults. IHAWP began on January 1, 2014. The IHAWP includes two separate plans: 1) the Wellness Plan (WP) which is an Iowa Medicaid program and 2) the Marketplace Choice Plan (MPC) which allows members to choose an eligible private insurance plan from the Health Insurance Marketplace. The findings in this report obtained through surveys represent the experiences of IHAWP members within their first year of the plan.
