Abstract

This report is intended to summarize the discussion from the NSF-supported Geospace Exploration and Observation with Scientific Collaboration in Polar Regions (GEOSCOPR) workshop and place it in context with other reports for several purposes: (1) tracking progress in Antarctic geospace research, (2) identifying key unresolved science questions and gaps in understanding, (3) identifying future measurement and modeling needs to advance the national space weather enterprise, (4) identifying opportunities for international and interdisciplinary partnerships, and (5) discussing the current and future outlook for the state of the profession, education, and outreach. Although this report is not a consensus study, it’s guided by several consensus studies and other reports requested by NSF, NASA, and other agencies; these include the recent solar and space physics (heliophysics) decadal survey (NASEM 2024) and reports from the Space Weather Advisory Group (SWAG, a an advisory body created in accordance with PROSWIFT and the Federal Advisory Committee Act).
