Abstract
Human beings have a peculiar way of occupying space. The study of lithics from Woodpecker Cave, a Woodland site in Eastern Iowa, can help inform us how space was organized and used during the period. Raw material location and lithic morphology support a preference to trend towards expedient behaviors in the lithic production process at Woodpecker Cave. Spatial layout determined through GIS and standardized screen density squares show an organized use of space with definitive and separate activity and discard locations. Taken together this shows a trend towards logistic, collector practices by the occupants of Woodpecker Cave.
