Biography and Expertise

Dr. Winkler investigates fundamental problems in respiratory medicine, pulmonary imaging, critical care, and physiology. However, he focuses primarily on innovative, interdisciplinary approaches at the intersection of multiple fields to gain advanced insights. Dr. Winkler incorporates computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), computational analysis, respiratory physiology, lung diseases, and mathematical modeling in his studies. His most influential work characterized the complex, self-organized behavior of airways during asthma attacks.
