Douglas B Hornick

My research interests lie broadly in the area of lung infections, particularly Gram negative bacillary pneumonia.

My current research focuses on how gram negative bacteria, such as Klebsiella pneumoniae and Hemophilus influenzae, adhere to respiratorymucosa and subsequently cause infection.

My second area of interest is in the management of patients hospitalized with bacterial pneumonias. Of particular interest are the problems associated with increased bacterial resistance. I am also interestedin the host response to infection and the role of that response in patient outcome.

Dr. Hornick's research work examines gram negative bacterial interaction with respiratory epithelium. His clinical interests are in acute and chronic lung infections such as community and hospital acquired pneumonias, bronchiectasis, TB and other pulmonary mycobacterial infections.
