Biography and Expertise

Kelly M. Schieltz, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics at the University of Iowa. She is a licensed psychologist and Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Dr. Schieltz is the 2023 recipient of the B.F. Skinner New Researcher Award in Applied Research from Division 25 (Behavior Analysis) of the American Psychological Association (APA). With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Schieltz directs a brief outpatient clinic that aims to evaluate and treat the challenging behavior displayed by children with and without developmental disabilities. Her research focuses on training parents in their homes on behavior analytic procedures in-vivo and via telehealth, as well as evaluating behavioral persistence of adaptive behaviors (i.e., communication, academic responding) and treatment relapse when treatment is disrupted. Both areas of her research have received federal funding. Dr. Schieltz has served as an Associate Editor for the APA journal of Behavior Analysis: Research and Practice and the ABAI journal of Behavior Analysis in Practice. Additionally, she serves as an editorial board member for several other behavior analytic journals and is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research.
