Iowa Educational Media Association Conference / Blueprint For Learning: Setting New Standards for Library Media Programs, Iowa City, Iowa
The University of Iowa Libraries was awarded a $73,300 grant to digitize a collection of paper records of Chautauqua performances in the United States. The collection, housed in the Department of Special Collections, is a vast assortment of records from the Redpath Lyceum Bureau, which was a major booking agent for "circuit" Chautauqua performances in the Midwest. The focus of the digitization project, called "Traveling Culture: Circuit Chautauqua in the Twentieth Century," is a set of talent flyers contained within this vast collection. This presentation covered how we approached planning for this project, our workplan, and advice for those who wish to develop similar sites.
